2019 Shanghai Artists’ Australian Tour

Shanghai opera, Yue opera and comedy brought a lively evening of culture and friendship to Brisbane.

Date & time

Brisbane time (AEST)

Location

Golden Lane Restaurant, Sunnybank, Brisbane

On 27 February 2019 at 6 pm, the “Chinese New Year, Jiangnan Affection” Shanghai artists’ tour and Queensland Shanghai Metropolitan Association annual gathering took place at Golden Lane Restaurant in Brisbane. The association and 澳大利亚昆士兰文化交流协会 co-hosted the event, with 世诚金融 as naming sponsor. The touring ensemble was centred on the Shanghai Farce Troupe; this was its first Australian tour. Hosted by Xiao Ya, the programme included Mao Shanyu performing an excerpt from “The Golden Bird”, Zhao Zhigang performing an excerpt from “The Desert Prince”, Mao Mengda and Chen Guoqing presenting “Red and White Singers’ Contest”, and Zhang Xiaoling singing “Please Follow Me”. Local performers also joined the artists on stage, drawing enthusiastic applause and laughter. We thank civic and consular guests, community organisations, sponsors, advisers and volunteers for their support. The event also featured on CCTV-4’s “Chinese World” programme on 4 April 2019. The photographs below capture the performances and related community gatherings. Four performance videos are available below.
